If you hadn’t yet realized that, at the outset of Stranger Things‘ impending fourth season, our heroes have been separated–well, Journey is here to remind you. The epic new trailer for the show’s penultimate series is set to a version of “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” that has the drama super amped up. It’s both era-appropriate and fitting, given all the ominous dialogue about everything being broken and suffering and war and disaster. Even a disco ball is creepy.
Here’s Netflix’s summary for this season:
It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.
Eleven and the Byerses are in California, far from Hawkins, which may be the eye of the storm in this looming war. Eleven doesn’t have her powers—and all may be lost without her—but Max is just casually floating? The creature at the end gives off distinct Hopper vibes to me? The clock seems very bad, actually, but not as bad as the creepy house? Creators the Duffer brothers have teased a more horror movie vibe for this season, and the trailer certainly fits that bill.
SFF shows seem to either get prematurely canceled or live long enough to have someone intone “War is coming” in a trailer. Stranger Things has really made it. The first part of the fourth season premieres May 27th on Netflix.
